Spindle and Gear

Theoretically, replacing this gear and spindle should have been a 10 minute job, but I have not yet completed it, here is why. This is NOT a drop in replacement for a B&D 1321. The gear is exact but the diameter of the spindle is in excess of 1/2 inch and the "threads" do not match the chuck's. The spindle end is, maybe, 9/16 inch in diam ... Read more eter, not 1/2 inch and I need to find a machine shop to turn it down and thread it to fit the chuck. So, this part will likely cost me an additional $30 to $50 to make it fit this drill. The way this spindle is machined, I truly doubt this is a drop in replacement for ANY drill. About now, I'm thinking maybe I should have trashed this drill and invested in a new one. This experience has been terrifically bizarre and expensive. If you have an old B&D 1321 or 1322 1/2 inch drill, please think twice about ordering this part unless you are a machinist and can make it a DIY thing; I, unfortunately, am not.
