Part description

This 3-wire with leads dryer door switch is an on and off mechanism that prevents the dryer from operating while the door is open. The dryer will not operate until the door switch signals that the dryer door is closed. If the dryer won’t start, the lever broke off, or the switch shorted out, the appliance will not operate and the part will need to be replaced. This switch is a genuine OEM part and replaces the 2-wire switch. Please remember to disconnect the power to the dryer before starting the repair.

Dryer door switch didn't work
Very easy, whirlpool replaced the 2 wire switch with a 3 wire switch. After calling this site, and Whirlpool about the new 3 wire harness, they said it would work fine, which it did.

The light wouldn't come on and the dryer didn't stop when door opened.
I watched the video showing the repair sequence and followed the directions. It was surprisingly easy except for separating the door switch plug from the main connection. Someone had mentioned using pliers to pull the two sections apart so that's what I did. Then I did a little victory dance when I put it all together and the dryer worked perfectly. Not bad for an 83 year old lady.

Door switch not working properly.
I watched the short film, which was very helpful. I used a putty knife to lift the lid as the film showed, and then followed the very exact, simple instructions. Worked perfectly.

Dryer did not stop when the door was opened
Step 1: Unplug electrical power.
Step 2: Remove lint filter.
Step 3: Carefully remove the two screws you can see where the lint filter fits, being careful not to let them drop into the hole (#2 Phillips screwdriver).
Step 4: Push a large flat screwdriver under the edge of the top of the machine at one of the front corners, and us the screwdriver as a lever to force the top of the machine up until the hidden catch about an inch in along the front loosens.
Step 5: Do the same on the other front corner.
Step 6: Use a scrap of wood to prop the top of the machine up so you can get at the switch (inside the front of the dryer, along the top of the door opening between the latch in the middle and the top right corner).
Step 7: Unplug the switch at the connector about six inches from the switch.
Step 8: Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the switch in place, saving the screws and making a note of which way around the switch sits .(Taking a photo might help). Save the screws.
Step 9: Plug the new switch into the connector (see Step 7).
Step 10: Use the smaller two screws to attach the switch to the front of the dryer (see Step 8).
Step 11: Remove the wooden prop (see Step 6) and push down hard on the front of the top to make it latch onto the body of the cabinet.
Step 12: Replace and tighten the two screw removed in Step 3, and push the lint filter back into its hole.
Step 13: Connect the power and check that everything works properly

Door switch broken - dryer continues running when door is opened
Put in model number and there were clear video instructions on issue and how to go about doing the repair ourselves, the basic instructions showed us exactly what we needed to do. We had to remove nuts at the back of the dryer to lift top off - our dryer has the lint vent inside of the door.. $22.00 and approximately 45 minutes of self labor and our dryer is fixed. We are so thankful - this simple repair would have likely cost us $200+ for a service call and repair person to do exactly what we did.

Dryer would not start
Remove lint trap to expose two screws, remove those screws. Next take a small flat head screwdriver, about one inch in from both corners, on the front top of the dryer and pop the clips so you can lift the dryer top. Now open the dryer door to expose two screws holding in the door switch and take them out. Finally detach the old switch from the wire harness (very easy) and clip in the new piece. Put the screws back and your dryer is ready to go. This is a very simple fix
