Power surge took out the control board. Even though the board is protected by a fuse, a surge will take out the adjacent capacitor every time.
The challenge to this repair is removing the back panel and refitting it without damaging the plastic tabs that hold it together. I always take a hi-def picture of the wire connections before I remove the damaged board. Once the board was replaced, the dehumidifier went back to work. If you've never worked with electronic cables before, b e sure to use needle nose pliers to remove and seat the connectors.

Once you have it apart, its a good time to remove dust and debris from the cabinet and evaporator coils.

The DeLonghi version of this Danby dehumidifier is a top shelf product, and is definitely worth the cost of the board.
