Temperature would not vary from maximum when on.
Locate and TURN OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER.
Disassembly: Loosen bolts on the retaining brackets, one under each end of the cooktop. Turn brackets out of the way and carefully lift the cooktop out of its hole and sit it on top of the counter. Remove the ten screws (three in front, three in back and two on each end) fholding th ... Read more e cook top and lift it up and sett it aside. Remove the three screws holding the control heat barrier and set it aside. Remove the three screws holding the control assembly to chain access to the burner control mounting screws. Sketch (or photograph) the wires connected to the defective burner control. Remove the two mounting screws and remove wire connectors from the burner control.
Reassembly:. Referring to your sketch (or photo), connect the wires to the proper terminals on the new burner control. Remount the burner control into the control assembly reusing the two mounting screws. Remount the burner control assembly reusing the three screws. Remount the heat barrier
reusing those three screws. Carefully reseat three cook top and secure with those ten screws. Replace cooktop unit into its hole, turn mounting brackets and tighten mounting bracket bolts only enough to secure.
Restore power at the circuit breaker and test all burners.
