This valve prevents the pump in your compressor from building the pressure in the tank to unsafe levels. Once the pressure in your compressor reaches a certain level, this valve will open and allows excess pressure to escape. There are a couple reasons you may need to replace this part, over time the spring in this valve will lose tension and the valve will open before the desired level of pressure has been reached, or you may notice air leaking from the valve. This replacement valve is made of metal, and there is sealant on the threads. You will need a wrench to successfully install this part. Before you begin any repairs to your compressor make sure you drain the air from the tank.
