Discharge grate broke off and went into the shredder knives
Remove the 8 - 5/16 lock nuts from the shredder hopper and work the panel off the bearing. Tape the discharge door up and out of the way. Remove the 5/16 x 3/4 bolt from the bottom of the discharge grate. Pull the bottom of the grate out then bend the top of the grate down until it releases from the slot at the top of the hopper and then pull it out. Access to the knives is limited so be patient. Next you remove the 10/24 socket head bolt. I used a pair of locking pliers to hold the head because the socket will be packed with wood chips. Remove the lock nut and pull the bolt out the shaft that holds the 4 knives and spacers. Take note how the spacers go back. The lengths vary so they offset the knives from the next group. Pull the shaft out keeping track of the spacer placement. Install the 4 knives and spacers on the 1/2” shaft then put the 10/24 bolt and lock nut back in. Repeat this for next 3 shredder shafts until all 16 knives 4 on each shaft are back on the 4 - 1/2” shafts. I also put bearing grease on the shafts during the install. After all the knives are installed the side panel on the hopper goes back on taking care of the bearing placement on the drive shaft. Tighten all 8 - 5/16 lock nuts. Reinstall the discharge grate making sure the bend at the top goes back into the slot at top of the hopper. Install the bolt at the bottom of the grate and return the discharge door to its operating position.
