Fence lock won't lock fence in place. What are some commend cause's?

My saw blade does not raise or lower without a lot of force. I sprayed threaded spindle with corrosion buster, wire brushed, and oiled. It still does raise or lower without force. This saw is 6 years old and has seen limited usage.

Simple as removing the screw holding the broken one and replacing it with the new one. The screwing it back in.
One note is that the new spring clip seemed to be very difficult to open and allow the push stick in. But this quickly loosened up and works great now.
