RF263BEAEBC Samsung Refrigerator - Instructions

This is the Samsung French door refrigerator style that so many people have complained about freezing up and not cooling the top section. I first changed out the defrost thermostat and this did not correct the problem. I done a quick resistance check on the temp sensor that's mounted on the evaporator itself. The resistance would change when holding an ice cube on the sensor so I just assumed it was ok. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: When performing a resistance check on this sensor, make sure your readings match the Samsung temp/resistance chart in their literature. My sensor was way off calibration and was causing the freeze up. Its working as designed now and DW is happy again. Learn from my mistake.

The installation video notes that the door mullion spring has a bent end, and that the bent end of the spring is to be inserted into the LOWER hinge. However, on my refrigerator door, the bent end of the door mullion spring must be inserted into the UPPER hinge in order for the door to function properly. (Also noted that in your video the installer manually closed the door mullion rather than just closing the refrigerator door, another indication that the installation of the spring was incorrect.) After watching the video several times to confirm I was installing the door mullion spring according to the video instructions, I tried inserting the bent end of the door mullion spring into the upper hinge, which proved to be the correct installation of the door mull spring. What should have been a 5 minute repair turned into an ½ hour repair.

Replaced parts, as ordered - very simple. Watched the video before hand. Found that existing assembly did not have the "Y" clip installed. Been making ice for three weeks with no freezing up (yet) - time will tell.

unlock filter with pliers with a turn to the right, pull out and replace filter, Turner new filter to the left until it click in.

After watching a few you tube videos on the Samsung ice maker removal, this repair was not that bad. The key to this repair is PATIENCE!
Unplug your fridge, have a steamer and Phillips & straight screw driver handy. Remove ice bucket, place rags or paper towels in bottom half of ice maker. Fire up your steamer and melt ALL ice before proceeding! Once all ice is gone, remove one screw to the left on cover for the wiring, remove plastic wire cover , remove screw just below ice maker itself, push locking tab in to release plastic lower tray attached to bottom of ice maker. Once you do this it exposes the refrigerant line (u shaped) under ice maker. If you can still see ice once that plastic cover drops down, yep... more steaming , if you try chip away any remaining ice damage will result to that refrigerant line then it’s game over. Fridge needs to be replaced! Once fully clear of ice , carefully pry that refrigerant line down a bit so it is released from the bottom of ice maker. Do not bend it down too far only enough so it will clear when pulling ice maker out. Un clip yellow electrical connector to ice maker and gently pull the ice maker towards you and down to fully remove. As you are pulling it out be sure refrigerant line does not get hung up. Once removed you may find more ice build up on top of auger assembly. All ice/ frost needs to be gone. Follow u shaped refrigerant line back towards the styrofoam, push one clip on each tube towards the back with the tab facing down! The plastic rectangle trim piece slides off fairly easy. OPENED THE LEFT SIDE REFRIGERATOR DOOR WHERE THE DEFECTIVE MECHANISM WAS. GOT UP ON THE FIRST STEP OF THE STEP STOOL,REMOVED THE PHILLIPS HEAD RETAINING SCREW FROM THE BROKEN PART.PUT THE NEW CLOSING MECHANISM IN PLACE AND RE-INSTALLED THE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREW. STEPPED DOWN FROM THE STEP STOOL AND SHUT THE REFRIGERATOR DOOR.

Went to You Tube and saw video on how to replace broken mullion spring. Ordered part online (more than one in case one broke -very cheap <$3.00 per part). Watched video twice and was able to follow instructions and insert spring correctly. Not difficult if you pay attention to details on how the spring must fit and which end goes where. The door works perfectly!

There is a pretty good video about this on youtube, but complications arose nonetheless. The replacement spring supplied by Partselect is a bit different from the original in two ways. First, it is made of heavier-gauge wire; this is a good thing for durability, but it makes installation tougher. Second, the ends of the spring, which are bent at right angles to the spring axis in order to fit into the plastic sleeves that hold the spring ends, are far too long. Once I figured this out, i snipped the ends down by a quarter inch or so, and they fit into the sleeves just fine after a certain amount of persuasion from needle-nose pliers. All things considered, it was a bit harder than it should have been, but the door works now, so all is well.

Show how to fix it on YouTube so that helped a lot. I ordered a new spring gave all the correct information and the spring was too big that showed up
lol so had to go to Plan B an modified the broken spring lol works great now

Used a pair of needle nose pliers and replaced the spring.

I simply removed the old container & carefully removed all built up ice from the area that was to house the new container. This site helped me find the correct container in minutes. Will definitely use them again.

Was incredibly easy.
1. Top front of fridge: remove cover, about 4 Philips Head screws, lift up and slide back, being careful of small wires (door position sensing magnetic switches).
2. We are working on the upper right door hinge: this was way too simple, there is a toggle lever that locks the upper bearing plate in position; flip toggle up and remove, remove hinge.
3. lower right hinge: using the metric Allen Key, unscrew the fasteners on hinge plate (right tightly, lefty loosey) turn counter clockwise to remove screws.
4. There exists a small black thimble sized bushing on the old hinge that goes onto the new one. It didn't come with the lower right hinge but is a part the fits onto the pivot. If you need a new one, remember it doesn't come with the hinge. (check the door for it too, maybe it got stuck in there.
Place the black bushing onto the new hinge pivot point; there is a slight flat in this part so you may need to rotate it before it will push on.
5. Mount new lower right hinge; using the metric Allen key, evenly screw in all screws, then put a final tightness (about the same torque effort to open a twist cap beer).
6. Now the door: make sure you placed the new upper hinge with arms reach on top of the fridge. Lift door, balance and bring it to the position slightly above where it will be in, lower it onto the lower right hinge pivot, allow the hinge to take the weight but hold the upper.
7. You are holding the door and need to place the upper right hinge into the door and also the mounting plate, this is easy and the door is not heavy. Once the upper hinge finds its location, you can put that metal toggle back on and swing down. It is not a tight fit, there is some wiggle room, that is normal. The plastic cover we removed in the first step, also prevents that latching toggle from being opened accidentally.
8. Put the plastic cover back, watch those small wires, screw torque is lightly, just screw them all back in but don't overly tighten.
9. The door is now back on!
Are we finished yet? We'll I thought I was too but the door height wasn't quite right. I went online and learned that the lower right hinge, also has an adjustment.
Open up the lower freezer door several inches.
Using a philips head screwdriver, at the bottom facing up, there is a hole where you put the screwdriver, screw clockwise to raise door. This is basically pushing up on that black plastic bushing you put back on the new hinge.

Pulled the broken drawer out and put the new drawer in! Just that easy!
