Start relay making buzzing sound but compressor doesn’t come on. Could it be the capacitor? If so how do you check this capacitor it has a metal cover over it with 2 leads going in the top. Can this be removed without damaging it?

Hello Tony, thank you for reaching out. Yes, the issue could be with the capacitor, but before replacing it, we recommend checking the start relay first. A faulty start relay can also cause a buzzing sound while preventing the compressor from starting by failing to send the required power to the compressor. The relay contacts can wear out, or the internal components can fail, preventing the compressor from starting. You may need to replace it. The part number is FIX16620630. We hope this helps!
