Replace a broken attachment for an ancient KitchenAid
I decided to repair my grandfather's first generation, ancient KitchenAid mixer. The wire whip had come undone so that it couldn't be used.

Everyone was skeptical that I could find the part for such an old mixer, but I got the serial number and googled "kitchenaid + the part number + whip whip + repair." That search brought up PartSelect.com.

It was very easy to plug in all the info and find the part on PartSelect.com and 24.99 later, the part arrived on my doorstep.

I took it out of the box, fitted it to the attachment on the mixer and turned the mixer on. Viola! Worked perfectly!

Thanks PartSelect! Everyone is amazed that I found the part for such an old appliance.

The mixer would not raise the bowl
I removed the motor assembly from the mixer. This left the stand assembly. The raising lift arm had to be removed by unscrewing the set screw, and then the lift arm was removed. I replaced the plastic arm bowl lift by sliding it over the lift arm, and then I had to remove the spring with a clip washer with the pliers, and replaced the spring back on to the new part. Total time about ten minutes for the actual fix, and about 45 minutes remove and reinstall the 12 screws that held the motor in place. It was well worth my efforts. The mixer arm works perfectly now.

all four feet on mixer damaged
I first ahd to remove the original feet by removing screws that held them in place. The new feet that I purchased were different then the original. They were a push in type and not held in by screws. I had to modify the base by drilling the foot holder to accept the new style feet. Once this was done, the feet were installed and looked good.

needed to replace rubber foot on mixer
The insertion part of the foot was tapered to fit in the hole in the mixer. Simple pressure was not the answer. So I used a small key, placed it on the bottom of the foot, after applying a little vegetable oil on the foot, and tapped it into place. Worked well.Joe

The mixer started getting weak like a gear was stripped and then quite working all together.
I removed the decorative band that covers the seam by removing 1 screw. I then removed the top portion of mixer by removing 4 square head screws. You will then see the gear housing in the front of the mixer. Remove the 4 screws holding that on. There are no spring that are going to pop out and you never know where they went, but be careful because there is a lot of grease and a gear that it just laying in there on the right side. You will see the stainless shaft with a couple on gear cogs on it. Remove the retaing spring from the shaft and pull the top gear off, it may be a little snug. You will then see the dowel pin, mine was sheared off but I could see where it was. Be sure to remove the broken pieces. Use the punch to knock out the remaining pin. Replace with new pin making sure it is evenly exposed on both side of the shaft. Replace the top gear, then the retaining spring, the the gear housing cover, then the mixer top cover and finally the decorative band. Be sure to unplug before you start. These mixers are expensive and expensive to have someone fix them. I ordered 2 pins because shipping is a little high and the pin is cheap. I fixed this for $17.00 total and have a spare pin.

Mixer would not fully rotate under any load
Removing the cover of the mixers "guts", it was immediate evident the a major gear had lost a few of its "teeth". Parts Select clearly offered the required part of this $300 mixer for a favorable price. I was fully impressed that it arrived within 4 days or my ordering the part. I simply exchanged the damaged gear and restored the mixer to service and I'm fully impressed with the Parts Select Company for their swift response to my needs.
