How to replace light socket for surface light.
For model number JNM3161DF1WW
Fix.com logo
Hi Diane, thank you for contacting us. Firstly, unplug the power to the microwave oven, open the microwave door, and remove the screws securing the grill. Slide the grill to the left to release it. Next, use pliers to detach the light cover, unthread the light bulb, remove the screw on the left securing the control panel, and loosen the screw behind the panel. Lift the panel up and pull it. To detach, you can now fully remove the screws securing the access grill and pull the grill off using a small flat-head screwdriver to depress the release tab. Then rotate the old light socket to remove and disconnect the wires to fully release the socket. To install the new light socket, first, connect the wires, insert the socket into the air duct, and rotate to lock it in place. Then realign the access grille and partially rethread the screw to secure the control panel, tighten the screw behind the panel, and replace the screw on the left thread of the light bulb into the new socket. Realign the cover, and snap it into place. Reposition the grille, slide it to the right, and replace the screws. We hope this information helps!

Had to replace charcoal filter
Open the front cover by pushing it at the top (where it says “Push”), lifting up and pushing back on top edge of the old filter. Pull it out. Installing the new one is basically just the reverse of those steps! That simple.

Old filter did seem to be a little thicker (filter material), but the new one was the exact same dimen sions, so it went in properly. Wish the filter material was white, so you knew just how dirty it was actually getting. But... :-D
