I’m trying to diagnose what is happening with my top-load washing machine. Smelled a faint burning odor a week ago. Now, when it agitates during the wash cycle, it sounds like the motor is really burdened with each stroke. At first thought it could be the belt and/or pulley system, but now wondering about the drive motor. Spin cycle everything sounds normal.

Hello Gary, Thank you for contacting us. This can be caused by the belt, drive pulley or drive motor. Check for any visible damage or restrictions where the belt or pulley may be rubbing against another part, and you can also test the drive motor with a multimeter. Good luck with your repair.
First pry off the cap of the agitator. Then using a socket remove the bolt that holds the plastic cup in place. Remove this cup by prying it loose from the two tabs that hold it in place. Once this cup is removed you can get to the broken cogs. Slip the new cogs into the underside of the cup, and slide the cup back down in the a
