The table on my Delta floor model drill press is very difficult to move up and down. It's very hard to turn the crank and feels like gears grinding, what could the potential problem be?
For model number 17-950L
Hi Ron,
Thank you for your question. If the crank on your drill is hard to turn, you will need to inspect the gear mechanism to see if it is damaged or worn. It may need a good cleaning and some lubrication.
You should also check the center pulley shaft to see if it is worn or damaged as well. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are open 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you!

Is a special tool needed to replace the spring. The threaded shaft is split and is very narrow at the opening. Appears it needs a special tool to open the split to allow the spring to be inserted. Thanks

How to reinstall the the bit shaft after it fell out
For model number 17-950L
Hi Dean, thank you for the question. To re install the drill bit insert smooth end of drill bit, into chuck, as far as it will go, and then back the bit out 1/16", or up to the flutes for small bits. Make certain that the drill bit is centered in the chuck, before tightening the chuck with the key. Turn the chuck key clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen the chuck jaws. Tighten all three chuck jaws to secure the drill bit sufficiently so that it does not slip while drilling. We hope this information helps!
