How to replace door handle
For model number GDT655SMJ2ES
Hello Kenny, Thank you for your inquiry. First make sure to disconnect the power to the dishwasher and turn off the water supply. In order to change the part we have to pull the dishwasher out enough to have access to the door cables in order be able to take the door off, then go underneath the sink and disconnect the water lines underneath the cabinets. You may want to throw a towel down when to take off the fill line and the drain hose as there may be some water that comes out. Use a 5./16 inch nut driver to remove the access panel and disconnect the wiring harness. Detach the door cables from the hinges, and then open up the dishwasher door and lift it off the hinges. Lay it on a towel to keep it from getting scrached, then remove the silverware basket. Now use a flathead screwdriver inside the tabs on the vent to gently tap it so it comes loose and you can unscrew it. Now remove the four screws that hold the inner and outer door panels together with a quarter inch nut
driver, just remember that the lower one is the fine thread and the upper one is the coarse thread. Remove the hinges by pulling them down and lifting them out. Now make sure that the little bent near the vent are kind of pushed down below the liner itself and then hold on to the outer door and push the inner door up to separate it and lift it off. You should now have access to the screws that hold the door handle. One is behind the vent so you can remove it with a nut driver and remove it. Use a 3/8 socket ratchet to remove the handle screws and reach underneath to grab them so they don't get lost. Now line up the new handle by lining up the screw holes and inserting the screws and tightening them with the ratchet. Make sure the handle is straight across the door. Now reattach the vent. Put the door back together and when you put the inner panel on
you want to just make sure that these little wiring harness holders didn't come out and then you have to line up the tabs along with the slots in the door
and then push it down in order to lock it together. Now the hinges back on
by push theming up in the door and using a quarter nut driver to put the screws back in-just remember that the coarse thread went on the upper screw and the fine thread was the bottom one. Now we can put the vent cover back on
just want to line it up get it started and tap it with the flathead screwdriver to make sure it is tight and you have a good seal. Put the silverware basket back on and put the dishwasher door back on the dishwasher by lining it up so it's on the
outside with the hinge brackets and then set the pins down into the hinge.
Once you have it in place you want to close it and latch it so the door
doesn't fall open and then hook up the door cables by hooking it over the hinge arm and stretching out the spring and put the cable over the roller. Finally reconnect the wiring harness at the bottom of the door and put the access panel back on. Now you can put the dishwasher back in the cabinet and reattach the screws and reconnect the lines. Good luck with your repair.
I first tested for 120volts to my dishwasher to verify it was getting power from my electrical panel. Then tested pins 2 and 5 on the control board to make sure there was 14 volts going to the user interface harness. After I verified that I knew it was the user interface that was bad. I watched a video I found on YouTube and followed it.

Didn't actually do the compete repair but got close. Pulled out dishwasher, disconnected and checked continuity on the existing heating element (about 16 ohms) the new element was also about 16 ohms. This indicates they both were working fine and no need for replacement. Next step would have been to swap the elements would have been
