My 5 year old Echo CS 4400 had a chain brake malfunction with stressed spring metal
The new one arrived in the mail 6 days later than suggested in the order. The two holes for attaching the brake to the saw were drilled 3/32 too far apart and had to file plastic and metal to get it on. When I got into the woods to work, the orange plastic paddle had been redesigned and was too close to the handle by an inch or two. Now m y gloved hand (winter in Maine) caused the brake paddle to constantly engage the brake and stop the saw. I tried to loosen the nut to change the paddle location but the nut is on a bolt with a round Philips head and the bolt turns with the nut. I hack sawed a kerf in the Philips to get a real screw-driver on it and eventually got it apart to find the paddle position can't be altered. Assign a bunch of desk-jockey engineers to a project and so long as it looks pretty it's done, don't matter it won't work at all. I can't send it back with my Alterations but it won't work proper anyway so time for a new $300 saw. A bargain considering an ambulance ride is nearly $ 1500. $2000 if they give an Aspirin for the pain. For $57 I'll lick my wounds and be fine. I'll write it off as a bad-date.
