When powered off, the unit made a growling/rumbling sound that I believe was the condenser. When powered on, the thermometer was not functioning as the unit continued to run making the room colder and colder.
Essentially a plug and play repair by removing the old pc board found inside the unit and replacing it. It’s inside a metal box behind the faceplate of the air conditioner. Many things attached to this board so be sure to replace the connections exactly. I took several pictures prior to disconnecting for reference.

The window AC unit is for a slider style window 48" high. The installation kit that came with the unit was for a 40" high window.
Last year, my Son-in-law installed the unit by building up the bottom portion of the widow with assorted 2" X 4"s. It was unsightly, leaked, and by the end of Summer, it was growing mold. anel frames together with clear packing tape. He also added wood to the mounting hardware to modify the installation in a vinyl clad aluminium window. Looks good & rain doesn't leak in. Using/modifying the part/frame only took about 15 minutes. Installing the AC unit took Son-in-law & #2 Grandson about 2 hrs.
