Part description

This is an approved OEM replacement part for 150 models of Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Inglis, Maytag, Crosley, Amana, Admiral, and Magic Chef Washers and Washer-Dryer Combos. For complete compatibility, please see "Model Cross Reference List" below. This is the newer version of this part, made with new metal sleeves for added strength. The Motor Coupling is located between the motor and the transmission on direct drive washers with no belt. If the drive system seizes, the coupling is designed to break to prevent the drive motor from damage. Consequently, this part may need to be replaced as your appliance ages. Symptoms of a faulty Motor Coupling include a washer pumping but not spinning, slow spinning, the washer will not agitate, and unusual noises. This coupling kit contains all the parts necessary to replace your existing Direct Drive Motor Coupling. Please note, that after replacing the motor coupling your washer may smell like burning rubber for the first few uses, this is entirely normal as the part becomes acclimated to the machine. Each is sold individually.

Works with the following brands

Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Inglis, Crosley, Amana, Maytag, Admiral, General Electric, Magic Chef

Works with the following products

Washer, Washer Dryer Combo

Fixes the following symptoms

Coupling had to be forced onto the motor & transmission shaft
I used a socket about the same size of the metal coupling, so as not to hit the coupling direct with a hammer. After putting on the replacement, my neighbor is raving about how much quieter her machine is. Works great, very happy with this site !!

The washer would not spin
I had no experience with repairing a washer, so I watched several youtube videos about how to replace the clutch. After I watched the videos, I thought I could do the repair myself. When I took my washer apart there were no surprises. The clutch was obviously worn, and it was pretty easy to replace. I replaced the coupler too since I already had the washer apart. The replacement coupler had steel reinforcements in the slots. Both parts arrived 3 days after I ordered them.

I watched the repair video first, then did the job. Couldn't remove the washer cabinet so just laid the washer on its back and proceeded. Replaced the clutch and coupler. Thankful I took the advice of the video and ordered the coupler because mine was cracked! The washer spins and works. Also replaced the water hoses with stainless steel ones since they were 10 year old rubber hoses. Spent $68 for the entire repair, a real bargain.

Broken drive coupling
Followed the basic instructions found on the site. The only issue was that the metal insert on both parts of the plastic coupling had some raised material that created interference with the motor shaft. The metal was a little too hard to just file, so I used a small grinding wheel in a Dremel tool to smooth the ridges. I could then assemble.

Washer was not agitating or spinning out
I wasn't sure if the problem was the motor coupling or the transmission clutch l, so I followed the installation video for the motor coupling and disassembled my washer to check the coupling. The plastic couping was broken into 3 pieces on the motor shaft, so I knew what the problem was and ordered the appropriate part. I followed the installation video on the website and was able to change the part. Install was easy and the washer wored when I finished. The only issue with the whole process was waiting the few days for the part to arrive and not being with a working washer.

Motor to transmission coupler
Removed two screws that holds the control panel and pulled it slightly forward and rolled up out of the way, used a screwdriver to remove clips that hold it to the cabinet, and then tilted the cabinet up slightly and pulled cabinet forward and away from operating parts and moved out of the way, then took a screwdriver and removed the clips holding the pump and moved it out of the way, removed the clips that hold the motor to the transmission, removed broken coupler parts using a screwdriver to pry the end pieces off the shafts and installing the new ones, making sure the two pieces that went on the shafts were flush with the shaft ends, put coupler in and lined them up, then put it back together in reverse order... All went great and washer is working great....

Water pump worked, no agitation or spinning, loud grinding noise when on spin cycle
Following the instructions in the online video for direct drive motor coupling repair was all I needed. After disconnecting the water hoses and unplugging the washer I did the following:1. removed the cabinet; 2. Tipped the washer on it's back; 3: removed the water pump to access the motor; 4. removed the motor to access the drive shaft/motor coupling; 5. removed the old/broken motor coupling; 6. installed the new motor coupling; 7. put it back together in reverse order; 8. reattached water hoses and plugged it back in. One thing to note is that the new motor coupling used metal in the center of each coupler (the old ones were all plastic). This made them a bit small and unable to fit completely flush with the shafts coming from the motor and the drum. Filing on the sides of the shafts with a fine metal file easily fixed this. Without filing the new couplers didn't fit well enough for proper seating of the motor onto its mounts. Overall this was a fun and easy repair!
