Turn off and unplug your refrigerator. I used the screwdriver on the left side of the part (where the plug is) and used the putty knife at the same time on the right side to push the spring lock portion of the part in. The part snapped out. I unplugged the left contact from the plug and put it on the new part, then I unplugged the right contact and put it on the new part. I did this so the wires would not go up into the refrigerator and be hard to find. I put the left side of the new part where the plug and contacts are in first then I snapped the right side in place. I plugged the refrigerator back in and it worked perfectly. Just take your time and gently remove and reconnect the new part. The store where I bought my refrigerator wanted $69.95 for a service call plus an hourly charge and part charge. Count on this site for your parts and do it yourself. I ordered the part on Monday, it was delivered on Tuesday around noon and I made the repair that afternoon.
Unplug refrigerator Open door fine light switch use putty knife slide knife under switch and carefully pry switch out. Remove the two wires (look at wire location and replace on new switch) and carefully push back into place and plug refrigerator in. Lights should come on with door open.
Light would only sometimes come on when door opened. Unit is 18 years old.
Was so easy, can't believe a repair company would charge over $100 to repair. Unplugged refrigerator , used putty knife to loosen one corner than slowly worked rest of switch loose, pulled down, removed & replaced wires one at a time, insuring had on correct prong. Pushed the new switch up in place, plugged unit it & made sure was done. Total time to replace was less than 15 minutes.
Thanks to youtube! After watching an instructional video, all went well with the use of a simple table knife, I popped out the old switch with a bit of difficulty (there was a retracting flange which held the old switch in place and it resisted at first) and installed the new one sent to me. Easy to connect the double plugs and shove the entire switch back into place. I was very pleased to have saved myself the cost of a service call! And very pleased to handle a repair which I wouldn't have attempted a few years ago.
Unplug the refrigerator, take a small flat head screwdriver and pry the switch out. Unplug the two wires on the switch. Plug the two wires into the new switch. Push the new switch into the opening until the tabs it's side click, lock into place. Plug in AC. Try the light by opening/closing the door. Simple. Fast service, 2 days!
The rocker switch wore out and door light quit working. Watched a online video and saw how easy it was to change out. Did unplug ref while doing ti and it took 2 minutes!!
I had replaced the bulb but that didn't work. I then went online for information - found the part and instructions so it seemed simple. Ordered the switch on Sunday and it was delivered on Wednesday! It was very easy to replace the part, however when finished, discovered that wasn't my problem. I then removed the panel, 5 screws of 3 different types (should have made a chart about which screw went where). All wire connections were solid and the only other thing I could think of going wrong was the actual socket. I thought the contacts might not be working properly. I took a nut pick and pried up the bottom one slightly, replaced the bulb and voila, had light. I suppose over the years it had become too compressed to make contact with the bottom of the bulb. I left the new switch in place and replaced the panel and screws after 3 tries (hence the need for a screw chart). This refrigerator is 31 years old! still looks and runs like new as do the other 4 original appliances. Thanks for the good information re: repair and FAST service! Old Dutch Girl.
