Product Description

The light switch in your refrigerator is used to turn the light on and off when the fridge door opens or closes. This is considered a closed switch, which means that when the fridge door depresses the button there is no continuity and the light turns off. When the fridge door opens and the button is released, there is continuity, and the light turns on. If the light in your fridge is not burned out but will not come on, the switch may need to be replaced. This genuine OEM replacement light switch is spring loaded and made of a white plastic. This is an easy repair that will require a flat blade screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers to complete the job. Since you will be working with electrical components, please be sure to disconnect the power supply to your fridge before beginning this repair.

Door would not close after insatallation
Followed the video with no problems, but the door would not close. There is a rubber bumper that the light switch strikes, This bumper was not horizontal, and just had to be twisted to a horizontal position. The door then closed tightly, Total repair time was about 5 minutes!

Switch was broken. The item that touched the door fell off.
It was basically the same as your video. I unplugged the fridge, pried off the previous switch and moved the electrical leads from the old switch to the new one. Everything worked great. The only issue (if you want to call it that) was that prying the old switch out bent the edge of the opening and needed to be tapped back. But it was easy and quick.

We accidentally broke the light switch and needed a replacement.
Getting out the old part was a little challenging. Rocking the part back and forth and pulling it out gradually with a little help from a small flathead screwdriver finally worked. Once the old part was unplugged from the internal wiring, replacement was easy. I simply plugged in the new part, popped it into the upper door of the refriger ator, and snapped it into place. Nothing could be easier.

Light bulbs wouldn't work.
Same as all the instructions, but I think it's important to know that the plug in looks like the backing to a stud earring. You have to slide the prongs underneath the flat part. Not your regular plug-in. I'm 59, and that's the first time I ever saw such a thing.

freezer door switch broken
video on web site very helpful. unplug power, remove old switch, install new switch. But after installing new switch it did the same thing that the old one did. i.e. prevent the door from closing. That's how I broke the old one by forcing it shut. I learned that the door stud that should hit the switch was hitting it too low to engage the switch, probably due to door sag. I had to carefully remove the new switch without breaking it ( its kind of fragile) and flip it upside down to work properly. Caution: do unplug the power as I did not and caused a spark, which scared the crap out of me. Luckily no damage to the unit but a blackened area on the switch.

Watched a video on u-tube. It took longer to move and unplug the fridge than it did to make the repair. Anyone can do this. Don't waste your money on a repair man!

Refrigerator Light Switch Replacement
I unplugged the power cord from the outlet before working on the switch. It was a little difficult getting the old switch out of the side panel of the refrigerator door. The release clip on the old switch was inside the door and I needed to use a small thin screwdriver to push down the clip and pop it out of side panel. The switch wire s did not clip onto the new switch very well. They were too loose and would not clip onto the switch prongs. I had to crimp the wire prongs closed a little so that they snapped onto the metal prongs of the switch tightly. I powered up the frig and tested the light switch to ensure it was working before re-installing it into into the side panel The repair took about 15-20 minutes to complete and I had a few frustrating moments.
