Freezer was frosting up, Refrigerator wasn't cooling at all
I unplugged it first. Then i lifted out the shelf's. I used a 1/4 in hut driver and took out the two screws that holds the back panel on. Had to jiggle the back panel over the shelf brackets. I located the heater element at the very bottom of the unit. My element was the old style with a blue wire on the left and a pink wire on the right . It was a single element type. I unplugged the wires from each side and used a Philips head screwdriver to take out the two screws that held the element in place then removed the element. The new kit was a double element type. It had everything you needed in it to convert to the new type. My wires now would plug into the right side of the element but the blue wire wasn't long enough. The kit had additional piece of wire to splice on the blue wire to make it long enough to plug in . To reinstall just reverse order the way things were taken out, last to first. Very simple.

Refrigerator side too warm, freezer side frosted up
After watching an excellent YouTube video on this website on how to replace the defrost heater, this replacement was quite easy to accomplish. The freezer coil behind the interior panel had to be defrosted which can take some time with a hair dryer. A towel placed at the bottom of the freezer compartment is required to soak up the melting ice water. Excluding the time to thaw the freezer coil, this replacement took less than 1/2 hour.

Several other instructions for changing the thermostat are fine, BUT.....BE CAREFULL WHEN INSERTING EXCESS WIRE UP INTO PLASTIC MOLDING! Why? The fan is also in there, and as I dicovered, with the extra wire tucked underneath, the excess wires went into the fan blade and stopped it from spinning. I watched and listen for a whole day wonde ring..."Now why I don't hear the fan spinning?" (despite the back of the freezer being cold). My thoughts, and later confirmation were that the wires had fowled the blades. It was easy to resolve. But is better to tuck them underneath towards the left or right side of the moulding than directly center where the fan is....

Freezer coils frosting up, freezer and refrigerator sections not cold enough.
Reviewed the video. It is very good. Removed power. Used hair dryer to reduce frost enough to remove shelves from the freezer. Using nut driver, removed the two screws holding the back panel. Removed the back panel. Placed it outside in the sun to defrost and dry out. Using fan and hair dryer spent about an hour defrosting the coils. Usin g nut driver, removed the heater. The heater did not test open. Appeared to still be good. Removed the thermostat by cutting wires and snapping it off of the top coil line. The thermostat had the same resistance as the new thermostat. Installed the new thermostat using butt crimps. Taped the ends as in the video. Had trouble mounting the heater. Re-reviewed the video. The video agreed with the part, in that the wires to the heater pass down the right side. On this refrigerator, the wires pass down the left side. The heater was then mounted with the wires relocated to the right side. One wire was long enough to be relocated. The other was short. Had I known about this in advance I would have spliced in more wire. Re-installed back panel and shelves. Reconnected power. The refrigerator has been working frost free for a few days. Perhaps the thermostat was not switching on the heater and the new thermostat fixed the problem.

Massive frosting inside freezer prevents fridge side from staying cool.
Use hair dryer to melt frost on back wall. Remove back wall screws (4). Set heater in front of freezer and melt all ice on coils. Do not dig ice out. You will damage components they are fragile. Remove two screws from defrost tube. Unplug the blue and pink wires. Take new unit and bend bracket away from heating tube. Straighten retaining tabs. Remove glass tubes from bracket flip over and reinsert in bracket. Bend tabs down. Put guard back in original configuration. Reroute blue wire to the other side. Replace defroster in freezer
The freezer had a habit of being very noisy during the defrost cycle, due to ice build-up, and sometimes freezing the water line to the water dispenser. Replacement was very easy: I removed the light cover, then unscrewed the screws holding in the liner at the back of the freezer. Removing the old defroster meant removing two screws. I had to re-route one wire, as this new unit has wires on one side only, but I did not have to cut and extend the wire. This unit was, however, more narrow than the old one, so it's currently only attached by one screw, with the other side resting on the drip-tray via the jumper loop on its left side. After a week of use, the problem seems to have been fixed.
