Does this kit work on the right side door of the above model number. This fridge has a bottom freezer with two door above.
For model number AFI2538AEW
Hello Paul, Thank you for contacting us. We have researched the model you have provided and have found the part you are looking for is Fix Number: FIX11743547 for the Door Closer. This model does not sell the Door Closer in a kit. We hope this helps!
I replaced both sides of the closer cam. However door still didn't completely close. I loosened the bracket under the bottom closer cam (4 bolts) and made sure it was level and retightned. When I put door back on with the shelves and stuff in the shelves - worked great.
Replacing the cam kit and the door stop was a piece of cake. After taking the food out of the door, the top hinge cover comes off with a single #2 Phillips screw and then the three top hinge screws come out easily with a 5/16" socket. Take it off or swivel it out of the way and lift the door straight up and it's off. Replace the cam half in the door and then the half on hinge base, apply a bit of Vaseline and you're ready to reverse the process to put it back in service. But wait! The door was too high on the hinge side now, something I didn't notice before because the lower cam half was completely missing. After a close inspection with a flashlight, I could see the problem was that the door vertical adjustment assy (another cam under the lower hinge!) was set all the way up and with the complete hinge cam installed, it was actually flexing the top hinge and making a squeaking sound. I loosened the two retaining screws and then turned the cam bolt until the door came down to its proper position which I gauged by comparing the top hinges on both doors. Once I had it where I wanted it, I tightened the two retaining bolts and then performed the door center adjustment procedure. We've had this refrigerator for 20 years and the fridge door has never been right. It either came out of the factory that way or the good folks at the place we got it from did it.
