Product Description

This is an OEM authorized screw-on broil element for a range. It is inside the oven on the top, where it supplies heating for broiling. A few reasons it might be replaced include: no heating coming from the element and uneven heating. Please note that this broil element does not include the mounting bracket. The depth of the screw-on terminals is 2-3/4 inches, and they are 1-1/4 inches apart.

Spade connectors on the new element were too large and thick.
The element I removed had spade connectors on it. The new broiler element just would not fit. I tried enlarging the cable connectors to no avail. I tried to reduce the size of the spade connectors with a file. No joy either. I had no crimping tool and no stainless steel spades to fit the unit. So at long last I remembered that 2 smal l screws were attached to the element in a plastic zip lock baggie. These screws connect in holes on the new element connectors. I installed the new element and pulled the back panel off the range exposing the broiler connectors. I could have stripped off the wires and attached them to the new element but I decided to use the connectors by adapting them. I spread the connector wide enough to get the screw in and attach them to directly to each blade connector in turn with each screw. Work fine. I esteem this to be safe as I used the original cable and connectors made to withstand the heat from the broiler element.

Broil element no longer worked
Turn the power to the stove off first. Make life easy on yourself, remove the door before you start. I removed the 2 screws at the rear of the oven holding the element to the wall first. Then removed the 2 screws holding the element to the top of the oven. Then I pulled the element towards the front to expose the 2 power wires connecting the element. Do not let the wires slip back thru the wall of the oven. Remove the 2 screws and discard them, new ones are provided. Reattach the wires using the stubby to the new element. Reverse the steps to assemble. You can do it!

Broiler element burned out
Turned off breaker! Removed the racks, two screws retaining the element in the back, and then the two screws for the top mid element support. Retracted element slowly pulling the feed wires into the oven a few inches and removed the screws attaching the feed wires to the element. Reverse the process and the difficulty is the reach t o the back of the oven and the need for three hands to align each feed wire and start the attachment screw. This is where I spent most of my time and patience. :) Attached wires and fed back into the back, two screws attaching it, and then the mid element support. Turned power back on and tested. Burned off the storage coating and done.

Replace burned out broiler element
Oven turned off and switches removed for safety. Removed two installation screws. Pulled element out until wire connections were exposed. Disconnected the element support brackets. Used small socket set to remove small hex head screws joining element to internal wires. This was very difficult because of the position of the element and t he small space available in which to work. I finally had to cut the element loose from the wires using tin snips. Reversed the process to install the new element. The new Phillips head set screws included with the new element made the re-installation much easier.

Could not keep the oven at the proper temp. and was hotter in back.
Unscrewed back plate, then used nut driver to remove wires. Put wires on new element. Tightened with nut driver put in place and screwed plate tight. Did same with bottom element. My oven works great now.
