Product Description

The speed control lever on your stand mixer allows you to adjust the speed that the mixer is running at. The lever is approximately 3.5 inches long, with a black plastic handle at the top. The speed control lever connects to the interior of your stand mixer, so you will have to take it apart to access the bar that the lever is attached to. Once you’ve opened the mixer, you can unscrew the old lever, taking care not to misplace the screw or washer that holds it in place. Replace the old lever with the new one, and then put the mixer back together.

The plastic knob on the speed control broke
I purchased a new part. I put a cup of hot water in the micro wave and made it extremely hot. I put the speed control with knob first into hot water. I took 2 pair of pliers holding the metal with one pair and the plastic knob with the other. I moved the knob back and forth loosing it up. I removed and while it was still hot(Knob) and ins talled it on the metal handle on the mixer and allowed it to cool down. It affixed itself to the metal as it cooled down.

I needed only plastic knob but had to buy complete lever
To avoid taking the mixer unit apart to replace the lever I had to wiggle the knob off the spare lever and glue it on the old lever on the machine.

Motor shell halves had rusted alignment pins inside case.
Followed YouTube video until removing motor housing from the base and separating motor shell halves. Rust due to 20 plus years age, required a small hammer or plastic or wood mallet and a cold chisel and two sizes of flat blade screwdrivers to pry and tap encouragingly until separation. I removed old black grease and redistributed excess grease onto gears before reassembly. The speed control arm was the easiest part to install once the motor housing was open. Perhaps a better part would be to have the lever as it exists, but offer a snap-on plastic knob/handle that does not require disassembly of entire mixer.
