Light stop working. Removed bulb did not unplug. Pop noise, My mistake. Replace bulb, light stays on won't switch from high to low. Need help

under hood light burned out
removed 10screws dropped panel . while I was there I also replaced bulb socket probably did not need to but I felt more comfortable doing so , also felt safer to do this. don't forget even when replacing only a light bulb unplug power from unit for safety sake.
