The switch communicates with the electronic control board, to let it know if the microwave door is open or closed. The purpose of this is so that your microwave does not operate while the door is open. When the door is shut, the switch closes and the circuit completes allowing the appliance to operate. If the switch is faulty, it may result in your microwave not working properly when the door is closed, or it may run when the door is opened, neither situation is ideal and the switch should be replaced. Use extreme caution when replacing this part, as the capacitor is able to store large amounts of electricity even when the microwave is unplugged.
