Switches are a commonly replaced part in power tools, handling on/off operations. Because switches use mechanical internals, they will degrade and wear out over time, eventually requiring replacement.

The switch has a spring tension so that the default condition is in the off position. The trigger moves the switch to the on position when the user grips the trigger mechanism and provides an active resistance to the spring portion of the switch, enabling power to the hedge trimmer motor. There are six to seven torx T15 screws that, when removed, enables the unit to separate into equal parts, exposing the internal trigger mechanism and the switch. The replacement drops right in after removing the old switch. Re connect the electrical connectors to the new switch. Re align the the two halves and tighten the torx screws. I don't know exact cause for noise. Thought it might be brushes. Got one out; it looked ok. Repair was not possible because the second brush holder could not be removed due to interference from wiring. I would have tried to replace motor shaft bearing but part NLA. Read more...

This is a cap assembly, also known as a spool cap. It is made of durable plastic, is red in color, and sold individually. The purpose of the cap assembly is that it keeps the spool contained securely in the spool housing. It can be removed by depressing the two tabs on either side and pulling it off. While you have it removed, it is a good time to remove any dirt and grass from the spool and cap. Install your new cap assembly by aligning the tabs with the slots on the spool housing and snap the cap on by depressing the tabs and pressing it into the spool housing.
