This overheat protector, also known as a thermoprotector, is commonly used in heaters. It is a safety mechanism that helps prevent overheating. When the temperature in the heater starts reaching dangerous levels this thermoprotector will trip and voltage will no longer be sent to the heater. If your heater runs for a few seconds and then shuts off that could indicate there is a problem with the themoprotector. It is made of durable metal, is approximately 1.1" in length, and is sold individually.
