Product Description

If your freezer will not defrost, or your fridge and freezer are too warm, there may be an issue with the defrost timer. This device helps to melt ice that builds up on the evaporator coils. It does this by cycling on the heater circuit for thirty minutes after every eight hours that the compressor has been running. There is also a dial on the timer that can be advanced in and out of defrost mode if you need to adjust things manually. If frost is allowed to build up, it can reduce airflow and the efficiency of your appliance. If you need to replace the defrost timer, this is an authentic OEM part. It measures approximately 3 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, with 60Hz and 120V. Please be sure to disconnect the power supply to your fridge before beginning this repair.

I REPLACED THE DEFROST TIMER USING FRI215846602 WHICH IS WHAT TROUBLE SHOOT SUGGESTED. NOW THE POWER IS RESTORED BUT THE FRIDGE IS NOT RUNNING. WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT? ORIGINALLY THE FRIDGE WOULD NOT COOL SPORADICALLY. NOW THE COMPRESSOR WILL NOT KICK IN WHICH WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. SO PERPLEXED?

We installed the 2 parts that were recommended. Very easy after watching videos. The refrigerator still does not run. Oh well, it was worth a try. This site has been great at helping us fix other appliances, just not this one.

The coils kept freezing over solid and this caused the freezer to not keep food frozen.
First I removed all food from the freezer and fridge and placed it in a cooler with ice. I then completely defrosted the coils, which are behind the panel in the freezer. I then tipped the fridge enough to get 6" blocks under the two front wheels. This gave me access to the timer switch area. Then I took off the front bottom panel of the fridge. Then I removed the two screws holding the timer switch to the frame. I then had to use a large flat tip screwdriver to separate the fridge wiring harness plug from the timer switch plug. Even though this was somewhat easy I feel it should be able to come apart just by using my hands. After removing the old timer switch I then ensured the fridge wiring harness plug was clean and free of debris. I then performed all the previous steps in reverse order. I then plugged the fridge back in and put it back in place. After a few hours I checked on the coils and they had not frozen over and even defrosted a little which is what they are sup[posed to do. I have had no problems since.

Refrigerator would not come back on once it shut off (as it does regularly) I could turn it to colder and it would run for 30 mins to an hour and then shut off again.
Ordered what parts I suspected might be at fault. Unplugged fridge and removed top shelf and cold cut keeper. Using nut driver, removed four retaining screws, lowered the control housing and unplugged connector. Slid out housing and removed cold control knob and two phillips head screws for timer. Removed temp control from housing and th ermal probe from casing. Rethreaded probe through white pliable (rubber?) casing, repositioned in holders and replaced 2 screws for timer, put housing back in place, plugged the connector in and put in the four nut-headed screws. Plugged in the fridge and in about 5minutes...voila. Thanksgiving was saved. Only threw out the milk, eggs and sour cream. All else was fine. thanks guys.

System would not cool
Went to your site and found the suggested problem. Ordered the parts. The diagram did not show the location of the Defrost timer on my unit. I had to call your service desk which was very helpful. the timer is located underneath the cabinet on the left hand side behind the leg/roller support. Once located it was a piece of cake. Unit work s great now.

Followed the video. Very easy. My fridge is cooler, but still have the frost. So I may try the defrost thermostat later. I am happy with the results, saved me a lot of time and money.
