Product Description

Commonly referred to as dog ears, these agitator directional cogs are manufacturer approved replacement parts that come in a package of 4 and are usually used with direct drive washing machines. We recommend replacing all 4 directional cogs at the same time. The agitator directional cogs reach across the gear teeth in one direction and dig into the gear teeth in the other direction to create the needed agitation. This thrusting motion is what tumbles your clothes during the wash cycle. When the teeth on the outer edge are damaged, the cogs will not engage with the upper agitator, making it impossible to agitate as it should. If your machine makes unusual noises, shakes/moves while operating, or will not spin or drain properly, it may be time to replace them. To access this part, simply remove the softener dispenser and then the agitator cap. You will find them attached to the agitator. Each cog is approximately 1 inch long and made of a durable plastic.

My Kenmore washer has spinning issues. Works sometimes. Other times it needs help to get going(turn by hand). The coupler appears to be in good shape. But I noticed that the 'cogs' section of the agitator, the slots, were empty. None. Any clues here for yiou? Most appreciative.

Upper agitator stopped working
Followed the simple instructions on youtube, searching for "kenmore upper agitator doesn't work." There are a number of videos there. Find the notch on agitator cover and pry off the cover using a flat screw driver. Remove the nut in the center of the agitator using the 7/16 socket with extension. Remove upper agitator (mine came off easi ly but some may require removing the entire agitator, then pulling off the upper agitator). Remove assembly from inside and replace the dogs. Reassemble.

Cogs were worn down, thus the top of the agitator would not move
Removed fabric softener cover, inner cover and removed screw and washer. Replaced cogs, changed the inner seal ring and changed out screw and washer. Put it all back together and done. This is the 2nd time I've had to replace cogs since I've had the washer.

agitator stopped working
Follow the videos and it's easy to do the repair. Spent more time cleaning the appliance than it took to do the repair, (shredded rubber from large washer part of the motor coupling and many years of dust). My only suggestion would be to turn down the front legs (feet) so it's easier to get the cabinet body under the front steel spreader piece of the cabinet frame. Also, breaking off the plastic tabs under the thrust spacer, as suggested in video, will prevent them from getting in the way when you reassemble the parts. First attempt one folded under the thrust spacer and prevented it from seating properly. A socket extension is a must to remove/install agitator bolt.

Agitator would not move & During spin cycle tub would not spin sounded like shaking a can with marbles in it
I looked at the pictures on the order form and thought I could guess what was damaged then I saw the trouble shooting section and it said that it could be two parts, I saw the price and ordered both. I watched the video on how to replace the parts I purchased, it only took me 30 minutes to replace both. My wife was so impressed she clea ned up after me and after I did a trial run and gave the OK she started washing my clothes. Thanks for making the video. Jay
