Flat Style Igniter

Best site I have ever used for repairs. First a list of what parts were needed was provided right from the start, no guessing. I followed all of the video's provided for installation instructions and and that was it. Very easy to make repairs and almost rebuilt my dated dryer to like new condition. Step 1: Disconnected electrical and turned off gas

Step 2: Removed front cover of dryer by loosening screws and folding it forward

Step 3: Removed faulty igniter by unscrewing bolt and sliding igniter out

Step 4: Replaced with new igniter by plugging in electrical cords and placing on mount

First disconnect plug, then remove two Phillip head screws from front panel, Loosen screw holding igniter. You need two pliers to disconnect the connecter. Once disconnected slide forward. Leave the original screw, Install new igniter. Tighten the screw, reconnect. Then replace front panel. Plug back in .

First I disconnected the flexible exhaust connection to clean-out and debris. Found part of a bird's nest that had fallen from the roof vent. The o ... Read more nly glitch, if you could call it that was disconnecting the snap-on leads to the igniter. I used two flat blade screw drivers to separate the connection.

Remove dryer door and front panel. Locate the igniter at bottom right. Now TEST igniter. To replace igniter first unplug dryer, then unplug the igniter wire, unscrew its harness and remove. Now install new igniter (do not overscrew harness as it can damage igniter). TEST again to be sure it heats up. Gas should ignite this time. Replace ... After reading the frequency of repair for 'no heat' solutions, I checked the igniter for cracks---found a crack and ordered the part. Installed the new igniter, and dryer was working like new again.

Disassemble the front panel to access to the parts. Tested all electrical parts and found the igniter to be defective. Turn off gas, unplug machine, remove two Philips head screws at door hinge, remove two Philips head screws opposite hinges, remove front panel from top down (metal hooks on bottom, unplug igniter, loosen hex screw at igniter body, carefully replace old igniter with new (caution: igniter coils are VERY delicate), apply pressure to igniter ... 1. Turn off gas using the shut off valve for the dryer and unplug. 2 Open the door on the dryer 3. There are four Phillip screws, two on each side of the vertical opening. Two have a plastic backing on the close side of the dryer and two are located on the hinges for the door. 4 Remove the screws holding the door (the door will not ... Read more have to be held as it has slots that hold the door in place after the screws are removed) Lift the bottom of the door gently and pull and the door will come free. Set aside taking care not to damage paint surfaces. 5 Remove the other two screws from the other side. 6. The face of the dryer is now loose but supported by clips at the bottom of the dryer, gently lift up and take the face off. Set Face aside. The burn chamber and coils are located on the right front side of the unit. While the face is off clean any excess dust or lint in and around the bottom of the dryer with a vacuum. This will help prevent any potential for fire in the future. 7 In the main igniter chamber locate the existing igniter (it will look exactly like the new one) It his held in place with 5/16 bolt that you will need a wrench for. The bolt only needs to be loosened as holds the part in place with a slot on each side of the mounting bracket. Once loosened the igniter will slide off bracket. Again take care to unplug the igniter. 8. Plug the new igniter and slide the igniter slot over the bolt and into the slots on each side. Tighten the bolt firmly enought to not allow movement, do not over tighten as it may crack the igniter. 8. In front of the igniter are the two "M" style coils in bracket. They are exactly like the new coils. They are held in place by a bracket with two Phillip screws. Remove the two screws and brackt. Note the bracket has alignment holes that correspond with plastic pegs on top of each coil. Each coil has the pegs in different locations and the wiring plugs for each coil are different. Remove the plug from the coil closet to the face and gently unplug the coil. Locate the exact same new coil that has the exact prongs to match the plug and reconnect the plug to the coil. Repeat the procedure for the second coil. 9. Place the coils back in the unit in the same place the old ones were located. Take the bracket and align the holes on pegs on each coil to match the bracket. Place the bracket on the unit and refasten the Phillip screws making sure that the pegs remain in the bracket while tightening. 10. To test the unit to see it it is working, you can plug the unit back in and turn on gas. Locate the shut off button on the front of the dryer opening located to the right and lower than than the lint trap. Making sure that there are no loose items, clothing or hands near the dryer mechanism, select a dry cycle, while depressing the shut off switch push the "start" button on the dryer control panel. Do not let go of the shutoff button, continue to hold it down until the dryer ignites. Once it ignites release the shut off button which will turn the unit off. If the unit does not light there are other issues with dryer that will have to be addressed. 11. Unplug and turn off gas and reassemble the face and door repeating steps 4 through 6 in reverse order. While attaching the doors not the hinges have slots on them that correspond with opening on the dryer face. Once the slots and holes are aligned the door will stay in place so it does not have to be held. When screwing the opposite side of the door, take care not to over tighten the screws with the plastic backing as they can easily break. 12. After all screws are tightened check door for closure and alignment. 13 Turn on gas and plug the unit in and operate to confirm unit is working.

Based on the appearance of the igniter ( moly dull no crystal look to the surface) I surmised at least one issue was the igniter.i rung out or checked continuity on the roll out or overtemp switch. This was closed under fire so i assumed it was good . Not wanting to delay the repair further, I ordered the solenoid kit and ignitor.
