The temperature sensor, also referred to as a thermistor, is used to monitor the refrigerator and freezer internal temperatures. The sensor is a small capsule like device that is protected by a white plastic casing. The sensor sends the temperature reading to the control board, which uses this information to turn on the compressor and fan circuits. If this part is malfunctioning it may inaccurately signal the control board to turn off these components, resulting in warmer than normal temperatures in the fresh food and freezer sections. This part can break from material fatigue through normal use, and will need to be replaced when this happens. You will find this part attached to the evaporator and control housing in your appliance. This OEM part measures roughly 1.25 inches with 18-inch long wire leads. For this repair, you will need a 1/4 inch nut driver, a pair of strippers and crimpers, and a pair of wire splice connectors.

How would I know which temperature sensor is failing on my refrigerator? My freezer seems to be working fine but my refrigerator is way too cold and it's freezing items like spinach.

My freezer stays warm (around 23 degrees F to 25 degrees F), but my Fridge stays at 37 degrees F. Do I need to replace the temperature sensor in the Freezer? Is there another part I should look into?
Not sure if this is related: We had issues with our ice maker not making ice for 2 months (in freezer and outside door), and then all of a sudden it started working again.

My ice maker is not producing ice, water works ok, and ice maker was replaced along with the blue plastic thing where water goes through. Could this be the temperature sensor?

Hello Brandon, Thank you for writing. We suggest testing the Secondary Dual Water Inlet Valve. The Valve is a dual valve and the solenoid that sends water to the ice maker could be faulty. Set your multitester to the R X 1 ohms setting to test for continuity. Place each of the multitester's leads on a terminal. Your multitester should display a reading between 200 and 500 ohms. Closely examine your water inlet valve. The exact ohm resistance rating you should test for may be marked on the valve. We hope this information helps!

My fridge is too cold. The freezer itself freezes well but the top part where the fresh food area is keeps getting frozen. What can I do. Thank you.

Will this fix running all the time even when control set on 0?

Hello Randall, Thank you for your inquiry. The temperature sensor/thermistor is one of the causes of the refrigerator running all the time to keep cool. The compatible one for the model number that you have provided is FIX977306. We would also recommend checking the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, the run capacitor, and the door gasket. Check the gasket with a plastic card to check for any gaps between the gasket and the cabinet, and you can check the other parts with a multimeter. Good luck with your repair.
The blue plastic thing that I referenced in my last question is the thing you told me to test and that is the part that also was replaced and brand new along with my ice maker, so now probably the temperature sensor is bad, thank you

Hello,
The freezer stays at 0. The refrigerator stays between 45-47 most of the time, set at 37. Occasionally it'll stay in the upper 30s. I replaced the thermistor behind the back cover and it stayed at temp for a few months. But now it's back to the 40s. Are there any more that I should be looking for?

I removed the shelves, then removed a temp control knob, the lights and the protective panel covering them. I removed a long white panel (no screws), removed two panels (
... Read moreone with 2 screws, one with three screws. The thermal sensor was behind the last panel removed. The cooling coils with the thermal sensor were covered with a styrofoam like device. Used a hair dryer to melt the ice. The new sensor was then put in place as per other videos on this topic. It took longer to melt the ice then to remove the panels giving access to the sensor. All in all a pretty easy repair. BTW, refrigerator is working fine (0-2F in freezer, 37F in fresh foods side).

You will find that is quicker to cut thermostat wire, then splice together with wire nut. reassemble in reverse order. After the refrigerator had been disconnected a few hours, I removed the lower back side panel from the freezer side. Both the temp sensor and defrost thermostat were easy to find . I then cut the wires to remove the parts and just rewired the new parts the same way and I was done . My refrigerator has been working fine since.
