Product Description

This part is the replacement door closing cam for your refrigerator. It is black in color and is approximately 2 inches by 1 ½ inches in size. The door closing cam raises the door to keep it from touching the refrigerator lining, and helps with the door opening and closing. If your door won’t open or close, or the door assist isn’t working, it could be an indication that you need to replace the door closing cam. You will also want to replace the door closing cam if it is cracked, broken, or missing. This part is sold individually and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer.

fresh food door wouldn't stay closed
We have a 9 year-old GE Profile Arctica side-by-side refrigerator. The fresh food side door would not stay closed unless we purposely pressed it shut. Even then we would occasionally find it open slightly. A quick Google search revealed a basic repair for this type of problem made by this site . The repair for the GE Profile fridge wa s not identical but similar. First, I ordered both the door closing cam and the door stop to make sure I had all necessary parts. I removed all food items from the door shelves and turned off the fresh food side by adjusting the temp to "off." To make the repair I removed the plastic cover off the top hinge for the door (it just lifts off on this model). I used an SAE socket wrench to remove the two screws that secure the hinge and lifted it off the door. The door can then be easily lifted off the peg on the bottom of the fridge that allows the door to swing. I laid the door on a blanket on our kitchen island so the bottom of the door could be easily accessed. The plastic door closing cam and metal door stop are held in place with two screws each. The screws require a star screwdriver tip, which is the only difficult thing about this repair. Fortunately, I had a gunsmithing screwdriver set with a wide variety of tips that allowed me to remove and replace the screws without a special trip to the hardware store. I simply removed the 4 screws, replaced the old parts with the new ones, and replaced the screws. My wife helped me lift and place the door back onto the fridge. I then put the top hinge back on the door, secured it in place with its two screws with my socket wrench, and put the plastic cover back on. Most of the time spent on this repair was trying to find the correct socket and screwdriver tip to remove and replace screws. The time to do the repair itself took only a few minutes. Once the door was put back on we turned the fridge back on, and the door closed just like new. The best part of this repair is this site identified the exact parts needed for this repair with just the brand name and model number of the fridge. The repair parts sent were identical replacements for the ones I replaced. Do keep in mind that the door closing cam is different for the freezer door and the fresh food door, so make sure you order the correct part for the door you are trying to fix.

Replaced door stop and door closing cam
Removed 2 long screws on each part, installed the new part and re-assembled. My GE Monogram refrigerator had screws / bolts that requiored a STAR bit rather than a socket. Keeping the star bit in the screw was difficult since screws are on the bottom of the door and longer than you think.Have the proper star bit and it's not that tough.
