Bake element (lower) in oven had burnt out.
Repair went pretty much as others have described. One caveat: the electrical connection to the old element used self tapping screws while the new element had machined threads. I tried to re-use the old screws and it took me a few minutes to realize why they weren't threading in. Always use the screws that come with the new element to make the connection. Also, to remove the fasteners used to secure the element to the back of the oven it helps immensely if you use a 12-15" extension with the (1/4" ) socket unless you have really, really long arms!

Old element had a weak spot and the it burned up and separated into two parts
I first turned of the breaker to the range. The clock on the range was off telling me the stove breaker was safely off. I opened the cardboard box and removed the new element from the plastic it was wrapped in. I used a nut driver to remove the two screws holding the silver plate onto the stove. Once that was off, I found that there w ere two slot head screws connecting the old element to the wires coming from inside the stove. I removed both screws and removed the element from the stove. The new element was installed using the reverse process except that instead of using the old screws for the wires, I used the new screws that came with the new element. I used the old screws for the plate with the nut driver. I turned the breaker back on and noted the clock was now working again. I turned on the stove to see the element heat up. A small amount of smoke and oder burns off the new element which is normal. I turned off the stove after perhaps 1 minute. From start to finish, this entire process took less than ten (10) minutes. This is a VERY easy repair.

lower oven element burned up
Used a nut driver to unscrew old element from the interior from the oven wall. Pulled the old element forward and used the same nut driver to remove it from elect posts. Used same nut driver to install new element in exactly the same way I took the old one off. Works like a charm. Easy breezy. I once had an appliance repairman replac e the upper element. It cost me as much money to have it repair as I paid for the stove brand new. This cost me approx. $39.00. Good deal, so easy a kid could do it.
