The range top heating element burnt out
I removed the range top and took it apart. I then marked the wires as instructed. I then disconnected the wires, removed the old element, put on the new element and connected the wires (the extension wire provided in the kit made this easy). I then put everything back together and turned the power back on. The instructions provided wi th the replacement element made the process pretty easy.

previous element was burnt and not functioning
First, disconnected the power, open the two screws on top front of stove, lifted the top surface and located the nonfunctional element. Secondly, disconnected the feed from the main electric supply that feeds the element. Finally, removed defected element and reconnected the new element to the electric supply by matching terminal and wire color and reassembled the top lid of stove. Upon completion, the burner was successfully operable.

Element will not heat
I found that one of the 6" elements would not heat. I removed the glass top (2 Philips screws) underneath and one molex connector for the cables. I confirmed with my DVM without having to remove the element that it was open (defective). There are three different 6" element part numbers that can used with this stove and the first two num bers of the serial number indicate what element 'kit' is needed. The element itself between three kits is the same, but the new Thermo-switch is different from what is factory installed and adapter wires are needed in order to connect to the Thermo-switch connectors "1b" and "2a". Before removing the defective element, label the cables on how they hook up to the Thermo-switch (2a, 1b, 2b) because they are in different positions between the old Thermo-switch and the new thermo-switch. Connector "1a" is in same because it connects direct to the element. The heater kit also comes with hook-up instructions.

Surface element shorted out. Ceramic top range.
The new element was a perfect match. Unplugged range, remove 2 screws each corner of ceramic top, lift top up, my wife held top up while I changed out element. 1 /4" nut driver remove 2 screws with clips on each side of old element, unplug wires, old element is out. Match wiring on new element. Take off holding clips off old element match to new element, reinstall. Let ceramic top down, reinstall screws, plug range in, check out burner, works perfect, your done.

One of the 6" elements on my smooth top range stopped working.
After first watching DIY videos, I decided it looked simple enough to fix it ourselves. I phoned , and spoke with a very helpful Customer Service agent who was knowledgeable about the specific part that we needed. I placed the order late in the afternoon, and it was delivered to my door the very next day! My husband watched the video o n the website that showed step by step how to replace the element. This was extremely helpful, and we would highly recommend that you take the time to do this before you begin your repair. Within 30 minutes, we had the new element installed and it worked perfectly! Thank you for saving us a very expensive service call on our Maytag range!

Right rear burner stopped working
I followed the very clear directions given at the site: unplug the stove; remove the screws at each front corner holding the glass top onto the stove frame; pull the top forward and unplug the wire harness in the back; turn the top upside down on a padded table; unscrew the hold-down clamps for the burner; remove the wires from the old bu rner and put onto the new burner (one of them was a bit rusty so I used the brush to clean off that connector so that it would slide onto the spade on the burner easily); remove the burned out burner and put the new burner with wires connected into place; tighten down the hold-down clams (I had to replace one of the clamps with a new one because the original one was quite corroded); put the top back onto the stove and reconnect the wiring harness; push the top into place and replace the hold-down screws in the corners; plug the stove back in and try the burner; all burners now heating as expected.
