Dispenser Solenoid

Remove ice bin. Remove one screw under support rack on the left side with nut driver. Slide the rack far enough out to reach in and unplug the 4-prong wiring harness. Squeeze the wings on the connector to release the plug. Place the assembly on the counter, remove screw holding ground wire to the solenoid, remove two wires on spade termin ... Read more als of the solenoid, then remove two screws holding the solenoid in place. Replace with new solenoid taking care to get the plastic yoke and plunger properly seated when you re-secure the solenoid with the two screws that hold it in place. Replace the wires you disconnected, then slide the unit back into the freezer, reconnect the 4-pin harness, and replace the screw that holds it to the side of the refrigerator. Done. Note: I had trouble with the 2 screws that hold the solenoid in, the holes in the new solenoid were too small and needed to be rethreaded to accommodate the original screws, or I guess you could use two new self-tapping screws. Also, the plastic yoke had one of the guide pins broken off, but it still works fine. You might want to buy that $4 part when you get the $55 solenoid, just so you have it. I don't know if I'll bother, because I would have to do the whole job over to replace that now. If you had it, you could do both at the same time.
