The defrost heater is in place to briefly heat the evaporator, also known as the cooling coil, which melts any frost that has built up on it during the cooling cycle. The defrost heater and compressor work in tandem, whenever one is on the other is off. Quite simply the defrost timer acts as a clock, it continually advances and alternates between activating the cooling cycle and the defrost heater. If you notice your fridge is not getting as cold as it should, or the temperature is not as consistent as it should be you might have a problem with the defrost timer in your appliance. This defrost timer has a six-hour timer, it is 1/2hp, 120V, and 60Hz. Before beginning this repair make sure you have unplugged your refrigerator, and safely stored sensitive food.
