Product Description

This OEM dryer door switch is an on/off mechanism that detects when the door is open to prevent the dryer from operating. If your dryer will turn on but will not start or continues working while the door is open, you may have a faulty door switch. This part features the switch and three wires, is white in color, and measures 6.5 inches long. This switch replaces the two-wire switch that is on many models. You will find this part attached to the inside of the top end of the front panel. One end attaches to the wiring harness and the other goes through the panel to make contact with the door when the door is closed. This is a regular wear part due to such frequent use or continuous harsh handling. Depending on how the switch broke, it might make it impossible to start or stop your drying cycle. You can test the function of this part by pushing on the black tab that sticks out of the front panel to make contact with the dryer door. If there is no resistance in the tab and it does not make a clicking sound, it likely needs to be replaced.

dryer door switch didn't work
Very easy, whirlpool replaced the 2 wire switch with a 3 wire switch. After calling this site, and Whirlpool about the new 3 wire harness, they said it would work fine, which it did.

The light wouldn't come on and the dryer didn't stop when door opened.
I watched the video showing the repair sequence and followed the directions. It was surprisingly easy except for separating the door switch plug from the main connection. Someone had mentioned using pliers to pull the two sections apart so that's what I did. Then I did a little victory dance when I put it all together and the dryer worke d perfectly. Not bad for an 83 year old lady.

door switch not working properly.
I watched the short film, which was very helpful. I used a putty knife to lift the lid as the film showed, and then followed the very exact, simple instructions. Worked perfectly.

Dryer wouldn't start
The thermal fuse was not the problem for me. I replaced the push to start and that was not the problem either. When I removed the timer it ratttled a little. I ordered it (over$100) and put it in like they said, remove one old wire and connect one new wire because there are a lot of wires. I was thrilled that it worked All worth the wait ing for parts with no working dryer for a total of a week. All the parts I used are easy to do but you have to go step by step and be careful with the screws and gentle removing the wires since they can be tough to get off. I'm so excited to have a dryer working again!

Dryer did not stop when the door was opened
Step 1: Unplug electrical power.
Step 2: Remove lint filter.
Step 3: Carefully remove the two screws you can see where the lint filter fits, being careful not to let them drop into the hole (#2 Phillips screwdriver).
Step 4: Push a large flat screwdriver under the edge of the top of the machine at one of the front corners, and us the screwdriver as a lever to force the top of the machine up until the hidden catch about an inch in along the front loosens.
Step 5: Do the same on the other front corner.
Step 6: Use a scrap of wood to prop the top of the machine up so you can get at the switch (inside the front of the dryer, along the top of the door opening between the latch in the middle and the top right corner).
Step 7: Unplug the switch at the connector about six inches from the switch.
Step 8: Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the switch in place, saving the screws and making a note of which way around the switch sits .(Taking a photo might help). Save the screws.
Step 9: Plug the new switch into the connector (see Step 7).
Step 10: Use the smaller two screws to attach the switch to the front of the dryer (see Step 8).
Step 11: Remove the wooden prop (see Step 6) and push down hard on the front of the top to make it latch onto the body of the cabinet.
Step 12: Replace and tighten the two screw removed in Step 3, and push the lint filter back into its hole.
Step 13: Connect the power and check that everything works properly

The dryer continued to spin when the door was open and the light wouldn’t come on.
I watched a 3-5 minute video (a link from your website) when I ordered the part and it literally took less than ten minutes to complete the repair-very simply. And it works like new now. Thank you.
