Our Crosley clothes dryer won't start. Although I can't seem to return there, at one point there was a list of problems and the percentage of causes for those problems. At the highest percentage for "Won't start" were fuse kits, suggesting LA-1053 (FIX2162282). Can you provide step-by-step procedure to checking the fuse + thermostats to determine which is bad? Thanks. Stuart

Hello Stuart, Thank you for the question. The parts would need to be tested with a Multimeter to determine what part is defective. Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you conduct this or any other test. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel. Your dryer uses multiple thermostats to regulate its internal temperature. The cycle selected determines which thermostat is used. A cycling thermostat can be found somewhere in the path of air that is leaving the drum. It could be found on the blower wheel housing or inside the venting/exhaust system. Dryer thermostats are usually oval shaped and about an inch and a half in length. Also, there should be two wires leading to each thermostat. Label these wires before you remove them so that you are able to correctly reconnect them later. The wires leading to the thermostat are connected using metal slip on connectors. Remove the wires by pulling on the connectors, and not the wires themselves. It may be a good idea to use a pair of needle nosed pliers to help you. Set your multimeter to the R X 1 setting. Take each of your meter's probes and touch one to each terminal. You are testing for continuity, and you should receive a reading of either zero or infinity. At room temperature, testing the thermostat should produce a reading of zero. But if a thermostat is tested when it is heated to its limit, a reading of infinity should be produced. We strongly recommend that you test your thermostat at room temperature. If the test you conduct with your thermostat does not produce these results, then you should replace the component. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

dryer quit working during operation and failed to restart
resistor is located on top back of dryer, so just removed metal plate on back with screwdriver. other parts are located above drum, and top of dryer is hinged, so lifted top of dryer by taking small screwdriver and wedged between front and top of dryer enough to get fingers underneath top and lifted. very simple. door switch and high limit switch could be viewed and removed at this point.

After reading 63% of the time it is the thermal fuse, I watched the video and followed the steps in the video. I was afraid I was going to drop something, but luckily did not. I called a repair man and he wanted $55 to come out. So for $30 parts and shipping, I did it myself. Thanks to this site!

Watched the video to replace high limit switch. Very helpful. Replaced the high limit switch and fuse. Be sur to take the front of your dryer off (2 screws) to clean the lint collector. That's why it failed in the first place. Thank you

Would not start
Followed the very informative instructions from repair video. Also take off front of dryer and clean out lint that has accumulated. Chances are that is why the upper limit fuse opened/ burned out.
