Product Description

This part is the replacement idler spring and rubber dampener for your dryer. The package comes with both the spring and the dampener. The spring is made of metal and is approximately 4 inches long from end to end. The dampener is made of black rubber and is approximately 1 inch long and 1 inch in diameter. The idler spring puts tension on the belt, so the drum can turn. The main reason you would want to replace the idler spring is if your dryer is noisy and will not tumble, and you discover that the spring is broken. Be sure to disconnect your dryer from the power source before you begin this repair. This part is an authentic OEM part from the manufacturer.

I have replaced the belt, and with the new belt the idler pulley and the motor pulley a just barely touching making a noise plus there should be a small gap to avoid friction and unnecessary wear or issues. What is causing them to touch? If I place the belt in the drum "trough" then all works fine (tho that isn't where the belt belongs), but over time the belt travels to its rightful place and the motor pulley and idler pulley rub each other. Thoughts?

Hi Michael, Thank you for your question. If you were hearing a noise, the sound may have come from the idler pulley. To inspect the idler pulley, you need to first remove the drive belt by gently pushing the idler pulley towards the motor to release the tension on the belt, and then slide the belt off. With the belt removed, you should be able to turn the idler pulley freely with little to no resistance. If you unable to, you will need a replacement. Closely inspect the idler pulley, as well as the shaft, for signs of wear or damage. If you are unable to turn the idler pulley easily, or it is visibly damaged, you will need a replacement idler pulley. We have included a link to one of our YouTube videos that you may reference on how to install the belt, that may provide you with more information. The dryer in the video may appear different from yours, but it will give you a general idea on how to install the part. We hope this helps with the repair!

When the dryer was running, it would make a loud thumping noise.
Once the dryer was apart, it was fairly easy to see the problem was the idler pulley wheel. The pulley wheel itself is plastic with a metal sleeve that rides on the metal shaft of the idler arm. The metal sleeve of the pulley seized on the metal shaft, and the plastic of the pulley separated and tore itself apart. I actually watched the v ideo instructions on replacing the belt for my specific model to see how the dryer came apart. Once apart I watched the video for replacing the idler pulley. Repair was a breeze after watching the instructions. I ordered everything new that was involved in the idler pulley, and was very glad I did. I didn't realize that the metal sleeve was fused onto the shaft at first, but ordered a new idler arm anyway. I also ordered a new idler spring. Once I received the parts, I realized that the old idler arm would not have worked, and the old spring had no where near the tension the new one had. I made sure to lightly grease the idler arm shaft so the pulley could revolve on it without trouble. I used a flashlight to see the idler arm screw when removing and replacing the idler arm. The dryer was assembled and runs smooth and quiet now. Watch the videos, I don't believe it would have been so easy to disassemble, diagnose, and repair the problem without watching the videos first.

Dryer made squeeking noise when running.
I had repaired this dryer before so taking it apart/repairing it was fairly simple. The toughest part of the repair is getting the belt on the drum and the pulleys st the same time.........
