Timer Knob was cracked and timer part that the knob was attached to also broke
I had to take metal back off dryer to get to the timer. There are a lot of wires attached to the timer so you have to be sure you get them in the proper places when putting them on the new timer. I chose to take one wire off at a time with the needle nose pliers and attach in the proper place on the new timer. After placing all the wires

to the new timer I inserted the timer back into position and added the knob put the back in place and return screws. Plug dryer back in. YOU SHOULD UNPLUG DRYER BEFORE STARTING REPAIR. Only takes about 20 minutes to do complete repair.

Replaced broken timer switch and knob.

controller shaft had rounded off and knobs wouldn't work
Unplug dryer! remove back panel three phillips head screws and three 5/16 hex head screws. rotate timer CCW to remove it. It only needs to rotate short distance, being careful not to pull any wires off as some are very short. install the new unit by setting in place and rotating CW to lock in. Timer went bad
Took off back cover - about 6 screws. Timer twisted out of clamps and leads taken off and new ones put on one at a time to make sure proper leads went back Easy. Took at most 5 minutes. Plugged dryer back in and toasted my success.

timer internal parts difficult to turn
removed three screws from back of control panel.turn timer to left to release from panel. reversed procedure to install timer after removing wires from defective timer one at a time and placed them on new timer. re installed 3 screws in back panel.all in all took about 15 minutes
