The dishwasher was making a howling noise, probably due to the pump being scaled, from our hard water. It then quit working completely.
Step 1: Disconnected it electrically; all i had to do was unplug it. I didn't need to disconnect the drain hose, because it had an extension installed on it. I did have to remove the lower panel, and then shut off the water supply, and disconnect the supply line. I also had to remove both dish racks, the conduit to the upper rack sprayer arm, and the lower sprayer arm.
Step 2: I then lowered the front legs of the dishwasher, and removed the screws from the upper mounting brackets. I then slid the dishwasher out, folded the insulation up from the back side of it, and then laid it on its back on a towel, to absorb any water that would leak out during the pump replacement.
Step 3: I then disconnected all electrical connections to the pump unit, and removed the water level sensor, and the drain pump. I then removed the three retaining clips holding the pump unit in place, and removed the pump unit.
Step 4: In installing the new pump unit, it is difficult to align the slots for the retaining clips. I had to use a pry bar to position the pump unit so I could slide the clips back into place. I then reinstalled the drain pump, and the water level sensor.
Step 5: I then tipped the dishwasher back upright, once I confirmed the pump unit was installed correctly. In the process of sliding the dishwasher back into its cavity, I discovered I had to hold the water supply line, and feed it through the frame bracket as I slid the dishwasher back in, so it would be up forward far enough to reconnect it. I also had to put the electrical plug back in as I was sliding the dishwasher back in.
Step 6: Once the dishwasher was back in its cavity, I had to lower the front feet to raise the unit up so I could reattach the upper brackets on the underside of the counter. Once everything was reconnected, I opened the water supply valve, and ran a full cycle empty, just to make sure everything was working properly.

Conclusion: The dishwasher now works like new, and there have been no problems.

assembley has to be turned twice while halfway through the hole in the bottom of the tub.
the edges of the hole are very sharp. 2) the new gasket is so tight as soon as you get it installed it pops back out. So I had to with the washer on it's back jack it in place with the mounting wedges.10 removed everything from the washer. 20 pulled it out. turn washer on its back unhooked everything. water and elect. had been turned off first. next Remove assembly and put in new assembly. jack in new assemble and re - assemble. but back in cab and go.

Motor was very noisy when circulating water
The dishwasher became all of sudden very noisy when in operation. I was not sure what it was but I thought it had to do with some type of motor. During draining, it was pretty silent, so I ruled out that the drain pump was at fault. The other choice was the circulation motor. I found the whole assembly to be cheaper than just the circulat ion motor by itself. I ordered the part and I received in 5 days. The installation is not difficult. I added a bit of soap around the seal so that it could sit better. The problem is that after the assembly is sitting on its place and then you turn the dishwasher sideways to secure it, the assembly can slip out. So I removed most of the soap and tried again. It took me like three times but i finally got it secured and in place. if you have a second hand to push the assembly while you secure it, it would be much faster. The dishwasher seems to be working fine and is definitely much much quieter. Despite the almost 7-10 years the dishwasher seems to be working pretty well and no parts seem to be rusted or worn out. i also cleaned the drain hose as it had a lot of junk and it was pretty smelly.

Dishwasher made loud droning noise and had reduced water pressure, dishes not getting cleaned
I followed the directions as others posted on this site and watched videos of the install. Unscrewing my water line took a little more effort than planned... my water shutoff under the sink didn't work so as water was pouring on my kitchen floor I had to locate an alternative shutoff in the basement. I should have tested the water shuto ff in the sink before unscrewing the water line to the dishwasher. The tip to use dishwasher soap as a lubricant on the big rubber gasket of the unit seemed to work well for me. Pay attention to which grey wire goes where, there are 2 side-by side that need to be removed and hard to tell apart when connecting back in. Ultimately everything is pretty straight forward but I had complications unrelated to the actual pump unit. At the end of the day I now have a 15 year old dishwasher that runs as good as the day I got it for about 1/8 of the cost of a brand new unit with similar (top of the line) features.

Replacing motor and pump assembly without removing Dishwasher
Before doing anything make sure you turn your circuit breaker off for the diswasher's circuit--test by trying to change modes on the dishwasher. 0. Lower spray arm and the piece under the spray arm, revealing the motor/pump assembly ... all the next steps take place under the dishwasher through the access panel. 1. Remove access panel ( two philip's screws) 2. put medium-size towel down to catch water. 3. remove spring-clamp attached to drainage hose attached to pump-- plyers work best for this, but you can use your fingers if your feeling heroic and use your towel to soak up water 4. remove drain pump by depressing tab and turning downward (counter-clockwise)-- you may wish to disconnect the two wires attached to it, although mine had adequate slack so this was not necessary--if you do detach them make note of which color wire is in front and in back since they both fit .. you may also need your towel to soak up some more water here 5. remove themistor by turning counter-clockwise and pulling downward 6. remove wire harness from motor 7. remove three "trigger" tabs-- there is one in front, one in back, and one to the left--these keep the pump assembly flush with the bottom and also help you seat it 8. lift the pump assembly out through the the main compartment-- if it looks like you are popping the floor up, you probably forgot to remove the trigger tabs.. the one in front is so obvious it's almost unnoticable! 9. get your new pump and motor assembly and put the oil (vegetable) around the seal with a paper towel 10. push it downward into the hole, but make sure your wireharness, thermistor and drain pump are accessible and in that order. 11. reinstall your pistol-clips-- on mine, it seemed doing the front first, then the back, then left helped it seat the best 12. re-connect your wire harness 13. reconnect your thermistor by pushing it back in and turning it clockwise 14. reconnect your drain pump but simply pushing it near the large opening and turning it clockwise-- reconnect the two cables if you removed them 15. reconnect your drain hose and refit the spring-clamp 16. now, assuming everything is seated correctly (very hard to insert pistol-clips if it seated badly, so you're probably good!), you can re attach your lower spray assembly, and then, do a 'rinse only' to test ... but don't freak out if the 'clean' light doesn't turn on . That only happens with the wash cycle! Congratulations! Also, here's a video of someone doing this procedure although he neglects to discuss the trigger clips-- it does appear to be a very similar kitchenaid model... it's not a great video since it's all done in the access panel, but the more detailed videos such as the one on this site, where they take it out, gives you a good sense for what to 'feel for'. rubber seal too large for pan flange and glued to the pump assembly
Removed all old parts from old pump assembly housing and installed all new parts from new assembly into old pump assembly housing. This just so I could use old rubber seal from original pump assembly. A bit counter productive, I would say! Works fine now.

Dishwasher became noisier, gradually, until it was making a high-pitched squeal.
Just as described in the video...once it was disconnected and pulled out from the cabinets. For me, the most time-consuming part of the job was disconnecting and reconnecting water supply, drain hose and the wiring through the narrow gap under the front door. Had a leak from the thermistor (temperature sensor) O-ring afterwards, so I pul led the dishwasher out 6" to gain access from the right side. Installed a new 29 cent O-ring from Ace hardware to fix.

This pump was so easy to replace
Fix offered a step by step video on replacing this pump which was so easy to follow. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about doing this myself but I followed their instructions and it not only was easier than I though, it was much quicker as well. My wife and I were considering replacing this dishwasher but after pricing a new one we decided to try fixing the old one and we are glad we did. We ended up with a better dishwasher for about $600 less than the new one. Thank you Fix for offering quality replacement parts at affordable prices.
