This is a genuine OEM replacement part that has been sourced directly from the manufacturer. This control knob turns on and off the pilot light. The pilot light is a gas flame that helps ignite a more powerful burner. If this knob is lost, broken, or damaged it will need to be replaced. If you cannot turn on the pilot your propane heater will not function. This knob is made out of plastic, and it is sold individually.
