Espresso machine leaked when turned on. It was leaking from a valve/connector.
1 Unplug from mains.
2 Open machine De Longhi ECP3420. This means unscrewing all visible recessed screws. Some use a regular Phillips driver, the others have a fancy 6 point star that will open with just the right size of regular flathead screwdriver.
2 Pull open two covers to find the valve unit. The tubes to the valve just pul l off, but with care. One tube is secured with a reusable spring-clip that you must pull off with small pliers. Remove all tubes.
3 Unscrew the valve assembly to remove it.
4 Find a small o-ring inside the entry point of the narrowest tube of the old valve unit and fish it out. You need this because the new valve assembly doesn't have one. Fit it into the new assembly.
5 Refit the tubes and fit the spring-clip.
6 Before replacing the covers, plug in the machine and test it with a little water. Make sure its isn't leaking now,.
7 Replace casing covers.
