Database Developer

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is looking for a Database Developer to work on one of the largest ecommerce websites in Canada

Build on and leverage your SQL skills as part of a small, agile team on the cutting edge of ecommerce without ever leaving HRM. As a MSSQL database developer you will help manage the suite of large-scale MSSQL databases that power our family of ecommerce sites. You will work closely with our existing SQL developer and our team of application developers to improve the performance and functionality of our sites.

  • Import and cleanse data from a variety of primary sources
  • Develop data import scripts and applications
  • Design, develop, and support application databases
  • Facilitate data interchange with vendor network
  • Maintain and extend existing automated reporting solution
  • Monitor and tune database performance
Required Qualifications:
  • 3 years as a database developer

  • Or
  • a post-secondary education in a relevant field (computer science or database administration) and work experience as a database developer
  • Must be able to work in Canada
To succeed in this position the you will need to be:
  • Detail oriented - data is the lifeblood of our business and catching errors is critical
  • Diligent - we have data to import from hundreds of manufacturers and other sources
  • A problem solver - every new source of data poses its own challenges and we look to every member of the team to be able to identify and solve problems on the fly
  • Collaborative - you will work with the other Database Developers and the whole Development team to create new features and tackle new projects
The successful applicant will have or will develop many skills, including:
  • MS SQL Server database administration
  • Data modeling and database design
  • System architecture, including database and system performance tuning
  • Writing and optimizing queries and stored procedures
  • Data warehousing and business intelligence
  • Disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Replication strategies and data migration techniques
